How Much Do Gutter Guards Cost? (2026 Prices by Type)

$700-$3,300*: for guards fitted to a home's gutter run, with the type of guard doing more to move the number than any other single choice

*All cost estimates on this page are planning estimates, not quotes. Actual costs vary by location, project scope, materials, site conditions, and contractor. See methodology and sources.

What Moves a Gutter Guard Price

Guards are quoted by the foot, like gutters, so footage sets the size of the bill and the product sets the rate. The gap between the cheapest and dearest guard is wide enough that two quotes on the same house can differ by a factor of several.

One scope note on the number at the top of this page: it describes guards installed on a home's gutters. Premium branded whole-home packages, sold with a long warranty, are routinely priced above this range. Our own gutter guard guide publishes a typical installed total for that kind of package that sits higher than the maximum here. If you have a quote well above this range, you are probably not looking at the same product.

What a Gutter Guard Quote Should Include

The product name matters more than the marketing. Ask for it in writing, with the specification, not just a system name.

Commonly excluded: gutter repair, fascia work, clearing a blocked underground drain, and any roof repair the crew notices.

How Long a Guard Install Takes

A few hours to a full day for most homes, depending on footage and how much cleaning comes first.

The wait is scheduling and dry weather. Product lead time is the other variable: a stocked screen or mesh goes on next week, while a custom-fabricated system arrives when the fabricator says.

Gutter Guards vs. Paying for Cleaning

This is the comparison the purchase actually turns on, and it is arithmetic you can do on your own house.

Get two prices for a professional gutter cleaning, and be honest about how often your gutters need it. A house under mature oaks or pines may need clearing twice a year. A house on an open lot may need it every few years. Divide the guard quote by the annual cleaning cost and you have the number of years to break even. If that number is longer than you plan to own the house, the guard is a convenience purchase rather than a saving.

Two things tip it decisively toward guards. The first is access: a steep roof, a three-story elevation or a run over a deck makes every cleaning expensive and makes doing it yourself a bad idea. The second is that guards prevent the failure cleaning does not. A gutter that overflows between cleanings still sends water down the wall and into the fascia.

Guards are also blamed for winter problems they do not cause. Our article on gutter guards and ice dams covers where that blame is fair and where it is not.

When Guards Are Not the Right Purchase

Do not buy guards for a gutter system that is failing. If seams leak, hangers have let go, or the pitch is wrong, the money belongs in repair or replacement first. A guard on a bad gutter hides the problem from view, which is the opposite of useful.

Hold off if the roof is near the end of its life, because a re-roof means removing whatever is clipped to the gutter edge. Skip them on a low-debris lot where cleaning is easy and cheap.

And treat a lifetime no-clog promise as a contract to read rather than a reason to sign. Ask what triggers a service visit and how long the company has been honoring them.

Screen, Reverse-Curve and Micro-Mesh

Three product families cover almost every quote, and our own gutter materials breakdown prices them separately.

TypeInstalled rate, per our materials breakdownWhat it does
Screen$2–$6 per linear footPerforated metal or plastic laid in the trough. Stops leaves, passes seeds, needles and grit.
Reverse-curve$4–$12 per linear footA solid hood that carries water around a nose and into a slot. Keeps leaves out; can overshoot in hard rain.
Micro-mesh$10–$30 per linear footFine stainless mesh on a frame. The finest filtration and the highest price.

Independent testing at Florida A&M University found micro-mesh outperformed the alternatives at keeping debris out. That is the reason it costs what it does, and the reason a cheap screen on a pine-heavy lot tends to get replaced.

LeafGuard
★★★★★4.8Google · pooled across 44 US locations (19,585 reviews)as of August 2026
One-piece seamless gutter + guard system. 36 states, lifetime no-clog guarantee, custom-fabricated on-site.
RemyRemy's Take

LeafGuard’s one-piece seamless gutter is formed on site and fixed to the roofline rather than through the roof, and the hood design closes off the seams where clogs usually start. Reviewers name their sales rep and describe an unhurried, informative visit. One branch’s consultant is credited by name for telling a homeowner the system was not the right fit for their particular roofline rather than selling it anyway. Install crews draw the same kind of praise: homeowners describe a full house finished in a day, even in the rain, with the old gutters hauled away and the site swept clean. LeafGuard is a Great Day Improvements brand. Worth settling at the quote: the manufacturer warrants the finish while the installing branch owns the no-clog performance promise, the warranty steps down on a fixed schedule rather than transferring at full value if you sell, and homes near the coast are excluded. Ask how each of those applies to your address, and if you get heavy snow, how the hood performs in ice.

Home Genius Exteriors
★★★★★4.8Google · pooled across 20 US locations (11,183 reviews)as of August 2026
Full gutter systems as part of multi-trade exterior projects. Highest industry rating.
RemyRemy's Take

Home Genius Exteriors holds Owens Corning Platinum Preferred status alongside James Hardie Elite Preferred and CertainTeed 5-Star contractor certifications, and covers roofing, siding, windows, doors, gutters and attic insulation. Reviewers name their project manager more often than almost anything else about the job, and describe them staying involved and checking in through to the finish. Siding and gutter work draws the warmest praise for how it looks once finished, and most installs wrap up in just a few days. Their free inspection is thorough and photo-led, with some homeowners noting drone footage of the roof itself. Promotional discounts are tiered by trade rather than applying across the board, so ask what your specific project qualifies for. If your roof is flat or low-slope, ask what warranty comes with it, since those systems are covered differently.

Victory Home Remodeling
★★★★★4.6Google · single national listing (2,563 reviews)as of August 2026
6" seamless aluminum gutters roll-formed on-site; baked-on color; micromesh guards. 100% Lifetime Guarantee: no proration.
RemyRemy's Take

Victory Home Remodeling covers windows, roofing, siding and gutters across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland), installing and warranting house-branded systems supplied by established manufacturers: EnduranceX™ siding from Norandex, roofing materials from GAF. It is a GAF Master Elite contractor, a designation held by only about 2% of roofers nationwide. The process runs through a named salesperson and project manager, with a quality inspection at the end rather than a single handoff, and reviewers consistently describe the installation crews as clean, careful with the house, and quick to finish on the date first promised. Its warranty is genuinely one of the stronger ones in this category: lifetime, non-prorated on both labor and product, transferable once to the next owner, and it covers glass breakage regardless of cause. Get the full scope, including trim, siding tie-ins, and what the warranty covers, in writing before the crew starts.

Clear Choice Home Improvement
★★★★★4.5Google · flagship location (887 reviews)as of August 2026
SnapLock seamless gutters + LeafLock guards; on-site fabrication, aluminum or custom copper. Family-owned, local, 20+ years in New England.
RemyRemy's Take

Clear Choice Home Improvement is a family-owned company working across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, southern Maine, Vermont and central Pennsylvania: a regional specialist rather than a national one. Metal roofing is where its reviews are strongest and most detailed: standing-seam roofs fitted in three or four days, crews working till dark, and one homeowner whose panel was repaired free of charge a year later. Homeowners regularly name their crew lead and project coordinator by name when a roof is finished. It is an Owens Corning Preferred contractor, and covers roofing, siding, windows, doors, gutters and bath. One thing worth knowing up front: Clear Choice does replacement and installation, not repairs.

Lednor Home Solutions
★★★★★4.2Google · flagship location (343 reviews)as of August 2026
Gutter Helmet dealer across 13 states. Patented ribbed hood with lifetime performance warranty.
RemyRemy's Take

Lednor Home Solutions is the largest Gutter Helmet dealer in the country, working across twelve states from seven offices: a dealer of the system rather than its manufacturer, which matters when a claim comes up. Homeowners praise punctual, tidy crews and a salesperson who explained the product without rushing. Its Sunesta retractable awning work is quietly its best-reviewed line, with homeowners describing installs finished ahead of schedule. The gutter warranty is the manufacturer’s while the service visit is Lednor’s, and that seam is where homeowners report the most friction. Ask what a service call involves and how quickly one is scheduled.

Homefix Custom Remodeling
★★★★★4.5Google · pooled across 7 US locations (2,693 reviews)as of August 2026
Seamless aluminum gutters custom-formed on-site (K-style; guards, soffit & fascia). 100% Lifetime Guarantee.
RemyRemy's Take

Homefix Custom Remodeling has worked across Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina since 1990, covering roofing, siding, windows, doors, gutters and solar. It states plainly that it does not use subcontractors. Its own crews do the work, and reviewers across its different markets back that up by name, crediting installers and crews for turning a full roof or a house of windows around in a day or two. It is a GAF Certified Master Elite roofing contractor. Its warranty is branded UltraCare, and the word lifetime carries specific year caps by product rather than being open-ended, so ask what applies to your job. If your project involves a color-matched material like siding, ask to see and sign off on the exact sample before installation day, and ask upfront how a warranty service call gets scheduled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most homes fall in the range at the top of this page for guards fitted to the gutters. The product family sets the rate per foot, from screen at the low end to micro-mesh at the high end, and premium branded whole-home packages are commonly quoted above this range.

They are worth it where debris is heavy or the gutters are hard to reach safely. On an open lot with a single-story roofline, cleaning is cheap enough that guards are a convenience rather than a saving.

Do the arithmetic before you decide. Divide the quote by what a cleaning costs on your house, multiplied by how often you actually need one. That gives you a break-even in years, and you can compare it against how long you plan to stay.

Treat them as maintenance rather than a resale improvement. We do not publish a resale figure for gutter guards, because we have no sourced one to publish. What they can protect is the fascia, siding and foundation that a chronically overflowing gutter damages.

Yes, less often. Mesh collects shingle grit and pollen on its surface, and reverse-curve hoods collect debris at the nose. Any product sold as maintenance-free should be read as a warranty question: who comes out, and when?
