# How Much Does a Walk-In Shower Cost? | RYH

> How Much Does a Walk-In Shower Cost? What drives the price, and what a fair quote includes.

## What Moves a Walk-In Shower Quote

This job is priced by the square footage of wet area you create and the amount of glass in front of it. Most other choices follow.

- **Footprint.** Every extra foot is more waterproofing, more tile, more glass. Size moves the number more reliably than any finish.
- **Curb or curbless.** A low curb asks nothing of the floor. Curbless needs the floor to take a slope: recessed framing, or a different approach on a slab.
- **The enclosure.** Frameless is thick custom-cut glass anchored into blocking that has to be in the wall already.
- **How many things spray.** A rain head plus a hand shower plus body sprays means more valves, more rough-in, sometimes an upsized supply line to keep pressure honest.
- **Tile format.** Large format sets quickly on a flat wall; mosaic, herringbone and stone are slow, and labor is what you are buying.

## What Should Be in the Quote

Read it for the parts you never see again once tile goes on: the pan and how it is sloped, the waterproofing system named by product, whether a flood test happens before tile, a wet-rated wall board rather than drywall, tile square footage and pattern, the valve and its number of outlets, and blocking for glass, bench and grab bars.

Three things sit outside the first number. **Glass is often a separate contract**, quoted after the shower is built. **Sealing natural stone** is ongoing work. And **the exhaust fan**: a bigger shower makes more steam than the old fan was sized for, and upsizing it is electrical work nobody mentions until the mirror fogs.

## How Long a Walk-In Shower Takes to Build

Three to seven days on site for a standard footprint, per the scope on the [bathroom remodel cost guide](/bathroom-remodel-cost/index.md), longer if plumbing moves. Much of that is waiting, not working: waterproofing cures, the flood test holds water overnight, mortar sets, grout goes on the next day and cures before sealing. A crew compressing those days is not being efficient. Glass cannot be measured until tile is finished, so the shower is usually usable behind a curtain before the doors arrive.

## Built Shower, Prefab Kit, or Keep the Tub-Shower Combo?

- **A prefab acrylic or fiberglass enclosure** is usually at the low end of a price range and the fastest: no tile, no grout, and no size or design flexibility.
- **A built shower** usually falls in the middle to high end of a price range: exactly the size and look you want, and a great deal of skilled labor with it.
- **Keeping a tub-shower combo** costs a fraction of either and stays right in a one-bathroom home, or where small children get bathed.

If a tub is what is in the way, start from [tub-to-shower conversion cost](/tub-to-shower-conversion-cost/index.md). That scope reuses the tub's footprint and often its drain, so it is priced as a swap rather than a build. Layout and tile direction live in [walk-in shower ideas](/articles/walk-in-shower-ideas/index.md).

## When Not to Build One

More often a good project in the wrong house than a bad project.

- **One bathroom, no other tub.** A walk-in as the household's only bathing option is a real constraint, better decided before it is built.
- **The room is genuinely small.** A walk-in eats floor area the door and vanity need; a well-executed alcove shower often serves better than a cramped curbless one.
- **Curbless in a slab home on a tight budget.** The slope has to come from somewhere, and a low curb is not a failure.
- **You are stretching for frameless glass.** Of everything here it has the least effect on how the shower works. A framed door can be swapped later; a badly built pan cannot.

## Types of Walk-In Shower

- **Three-wall alcove.** Sits in an existing recess with one glass side. Least glass, least waterproofing, lowest cost.
- **Corner or neo-angle.** Efficient in a corner, but the angled front panel is custom rather than stock.
- **Doorless walk-through.** No door hardware, but it needs enough length that water does not reach the room: a bigger footprint, so not automatically cheaper.
- **Curbless.** Flush floor, usually a linear drain. The accessibility option, and the one most dependent on your floor structure.
- **Wet room.** The whole bathroom floor is waterproofed and drained. The most involved build here, and the one most likely to exceed a typical price range.
- **Prefab enclosure.** Manufactured base and panels in a stock size. Cheapest, quickest, no site variables.

## Bathroom Remodeling Companies, Ranked by Real Customer Rating

West Shore Home

★★★★★ 4.8 Google · pooled across 35 US locations (47,085 reviews) as of August 2026

One-day bath systems in 20+ states. Custom acrylic panels with safety upgrade options.

![Remy](/images/remy/face-6aa3719e.png) Remy's Take

West Shore Home installs with its own employees rather than subcontracting the work out (something the company states plainly and few competitors will) and the reviews back that up with real specifics: homeowners across its network consistently name the two- or three-person crew that did their work, right down to first names. What recurs alongside that is care for the rest of the house: floors and furniture protected, the site swept clean before the crew leaves. Most bath jobs finish in a single day, and even larger combined projects (a full shower-to-floor-to-vanity remodel, a house of a dozen-plus windows) are routinely wrapped up in one to two days. Homeowners who added windows report a noticeable difference in how much cooler the house feels afterward. The in-home estimate is detailed and covers every material and installation option, so allow a good couple of hours for it.

Bath Fitter

★★★★★ 4.8 Google · pooled across 80 US locations (25,980 reviews) as of August 2026

Original one-day liner specialist since 1984. Welded seams eliminate liner failure points.

![Remy](/images/remy/face-6aa3719e.png) Remy's Take

Bath Fitter pioneered the one-day acrylic model in 1984, fitting a new tub or shower wall directly over your existing one rather than tearing it out. Reviewers across the network consistently credit their individual installer by name for careful, clean work, and many describe installers thoughtfully accommodating specific needs, whether seat height, grab-bar placement or a lower threshold, for aging-in-place remodels. The acrylic itself carries a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects with no date limit; the June 2023 date some homeowners see governs only whether that warranty transfers to a new owner, and doors, faucets, and other plumbing fixtures fall under their own separate terms. Because the new surface is sealed directly over the old one rather than replacing it, ask your installer to walk you through how the seams at the drain and walls are finished and inspected, a detail worth understanding for a job built this way.

Zintex Remodeling Group

★★★★★ 4.9 Google · pooled across 16 US locations (4,138 reviews) as of August 2026

Top-rated bath specialist in Texas. One-day installations in DFW, Houston, San Antonio, Austin.

![Remy](/images/remy/face-6aa3719e.png) Remy's Take

Zintex Remodeling Group is a family-owned bath specialist working across the South and lower Midwest, and it has won a BBB Torch Award for ethics. Reviewers consistently name their installer and their project coordinator, describing baths finished in the one to two days promised with floors and furniture protected along the way, and a follow-up visit scheduled quickly if anything needs adjusting afterward. A good share of the work is accessibility conversions (low-threshold showers, grab bars, walk-in tubs) done for a parent or a family member with limited mobility. Its warranty is unusually specific for this category: Jacuzzi covers the product for as long as you own the home, Zintex covers its own labor for the same term, and the whole thing transfers if you sell within two years. One thing to know before booking: Zintex asks that all decision-makers attend the in-home appointment.

ImproveIt! Home Remodeling

★★★★★ 4.8 Google · pooled across 5 US locations (3,941 reviews) as of August 2026

30+ years in OH, KY, TN. W-2 installers for bath and windows, one-day installs.

![Remy](/images/remy/face-6aa3719e.png) Remy's Take

ImproveIt! Home Remodeling has worked across Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and now North Carolina for more than thirty years, covering windows, bath, and kitchen cabinet refacing. Installers draw the most specific praise in their reviews: homeowners name the crew, describe furniture and floors protected through the job, and point to details like a flashing piece custom-bent to fit rather than left standard. The design consultant is the other steady theme: patient, unhurried, and praised for measuring every opening rather than estimating. Warranty follow-through shows up too, with homeowners describing periodic courtesy calls and, in one case, service honored on windows installed more than thirty years earlier. Their in-home appointment is genuinely thorough and can run well past the hour or so you will be quoted, so allow real time for that first visit.

American Home Design

Windows + bath in one company. Lifetime warranty.

![Remy](/images/remy/face-6aa3719e.png) Remy's Take

American Home Design has served Nashville and Middle Tennessee since 1977, covering windows, bath and outdoor living, and it is the region’s Jacuzzi Bath Remodel partner. Reviewers name their installers with unusual consistency, and even homeowners frustrated with a separate part of the process still go out of their way to praise the crew that did the work. The recurring detail is care for the rest of the house: floors and fixtures covered, nothing left behind, and most installs landing in the one to two days promised. They publish their own per-window pricing, which is rarer than it should be. If a warranty issue comes up after the install, ask up front how follow-up visits are scheduled.

Bath Experts

★★★★★ 4.8 Google · pooled across 5 US locations (2,058 reviews) as of August 2026

Exclusive Jacuzzi dealer in IN, OH, KY. Full-service bath remodeling, regional 4.8-star rating.

![Remy](/images/remy/face-6aa3719e.png) Remy's Take

Bath Experts is the Jacuzzi Bath Remodel dealer for Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, and in Indianapolis and Cincinnati it also refaces kitchen cabinets under its sister brand. Reviews are consistently strong on one-day installs and on the finished product, and the praise attaches to named installers. Several homeowners who were unhappy with something else still singled out the crew that did the work. Installers are also credited for fitting accessibility features, like grab bars, to the person who will actually use them rather than a standard layout. The company says its installation teams are its own employees rather than subcontractors, and its warranty covers both the products and the workmanship. Ask for a walkthrough of trim and hardware fit before the crew leaves, and for a direct contact for anything that comes up afterward.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What affects the cost of a walk-in shower?

A prefab enclosure in a stock size is usually at the low end of a price range; a large curbless tiled shower with frameless glass and several outlets is at the high end. Footprint and glass move it more than tile selection does.

### Are walk in showers worth the money?

Yes, when the tub in that bathroom goes unused and bathing is covered elsewhere: daily use improves, cleaning gets easier with no tub rim, and a curbless build removes a step that gets harder with age. In a one-bathroom home a combo is still the better buy.

### Does a walk-in shower need a door?

No, and doorless is a design rather than a shortcut. It relies on length and a fixed splash panel to keep water in. The trade-offs are steam escaping and a cooler shower in winter, and the extra floor area needed can cancel out the saved hardware.

### Do walk-in showers lower home value?

The shower is not the issue; losing the home's last bathtub is what narrows the buyer pool. With another tub in the house, a well-built walk-in in the primary bath is generally an asset.

### How much do shower installers typically cost?

They quote this as a job, not an hourly rate, because labor content depends on the build: normally the larger half of a tiled shower, much less on a prefab enclosure. Ask for materials and labor split out. Two bids agreeing on the total but not the split describe two different projects.
